Self-doubt is a problem that all people have at some point in their lives. Maybe not all, but I think it’s a problem that most people deal with and certainly writers. I doubt my work all the time. Sometimes, I wonder if it’s good enough, if readers are going to like it. But other times, it’s not just doubts that the writing is good. Sometimes, there are other, more dangerous doubts that come to my mind.
For me, writing and following God’s inspiration and letting Him write the book through me is the most important thing, next to me enjoying the book. Sometimes, when there’s a particular book or series that I’m very inspired for, I know for a fact God has inspired me to write it, and yet God is only mentioned and there aren’t any obvious Biblical themes that I can see. This has happened for one particular series that I love and adore and want to publish someday.
So, the doubts come creeping in. Why would God inspire me for this?
For me, a lot of self-doubt stems, deep inside, from not feeling worthy of God’s plan. Do you ever feel like God’s plan for your life is too big or maybe that you’re too undeserving? I know I do and for me, this is what that looks like.
Why would God inspire me to write this?
I don’t have an answer to that question but I have to trust God. He inspired me for these books and He knows what’s best. It’s hard to trust God when it feels like you’re blundering around in the dark, isn’t it?
Self-doubt comes from Satan. Don’t let him tear you away from the plans God has for your life and from the work you’re doing for God. See, Satan hates the work you do for God and he certainly doesn’t want you to be doing it anymore. So, he’s doing to throw every weapon he can at you to try to stop you.
Are you going to let him when? Or are you going to be a warrior, to pray and trust in God, reading and dwelling on His Word to help you? It may be difficult but never forget that God is there, especially in those times when it’s difficult to feel Him.
Don’t give in to self-doubt. We may not be able to trust on or rely on ourselves, but we can trust on and rely on God.
He will never let us down.
